Explore by Bike

For an authentic experience, step off the main tourist trails and explore beyond the historic city center. Renting a bike is a fantastic way to see Prague’s neighborhoods. Start your journey along the Vltava River on a scenic trail along its eastern bank. With numerous other paths around the city, a bike ride is an ideal way to discover its diverse districts.

The Rekola app offers an easy way to rent bikes throughout Prague, with half-hour rides costing just 35 CZK (approximately 1.38 €). Payment is simple and secure within the app.

You can also check out the best bike trails in Prague on AllTrails. Note, though, that biking in the city center is not recommended due to challenges like cobblestone streets, tram tracks, and narrow roads, which can make cycling difficult.

Stroll Through Prague’s Narrowest Street

In the Mala Strana district near Charles Bridge, you’ll find Prague’s narrowest street—so tight that only one person can pass at a time. This alleyway, measuring just 70 centimeters across, even has its own traffic light to manage pedestrian flow. Originally designed as a fire escape in the 15th century, these slim passages helped protect homes during frequent fires.

Nearby is Kampa Island, a peaceful area filled with restored tanneries and picturesque watermills, giving a glimpse of old Prague. Just off Kampa, the Kafka Museum honors the renowned writer Franz Kafka. In the courtyard, you’ll see David Černý’s provocative sculpture, Čůrající postavy (Piss), adding a playful twist to your visit.

While this alley is one of the world’s narrowest, the title goes to Germany’s Spreuerhofstrasse, which measures a mere 31 centimeters. By comparison, Amsterdam’s Trompettersteeg, at 1 meter wide, feels spacious!

Discover the Zizkov District’s Bar Scene

Prague’s Zizkov district is perfect for those looking to avoid typical tourist spots. Once a working-class neighborhood, Zizkov has a unique, edgy vibe, with winding alleyways and tall tenement buildings. Known as the “pub capital” of Europe, Zizkov boasts over 300 pubs, where you can enjoy Czech food, beer, and friendly company.

The district’s converted railroad track at Vitkov Hill is ideal for rollerblading, walking, or biking. At the hill’s summit, you’ll find the National Monument, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the third-largest equestrian statue in the world, honoring Czech general Jan Žižka.

The Zizkov TV Tower (Žižkovský vysílač) is another must-see. Its striking design, complemented by David Černý’s playful sculptures of babies, has become a symbol of modern Prague.

Nearby Riegrovy Sady park offers a peaceful escape, particularly at sunset when the city’s skyline is bathed in golden light. Inside the park, PARK beer garden welcomes guests under towering chestnut trees. Hosting over 1000 guests, PARK regularly showcases Czech musical talent on its meticulously restored stage, with drinks and food from both local and international food trucks.

Sample Culinary Delights

For food lovers, the Dejvice Farmers' Market at Trhy na Kulaťáku is a must-visit. Open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, this lively market offers fresh produce, prepared foods, and a vibrant atmosphere perfect for a leisurely breakfast.

Another gem is the Farmářské tržiště Náplavka along the Vltava River, open Saturday mornings and afternoons. In spring, the "Grill Fest by the River" offers delicious burgers, ribs, steaks, and grilled vegetables, with global flavors from Cuba, Georgia, and Peru.

Summer visitors can indulge at the Prague Ice Cream Festival, held on the last weekend of June at Výstaviště Praha. In May and September, beer and burger lovers can head to the Karlín area for the Pivo a Burger festival, where a variety of beers, burgers, and other treats await.
